All surviving Herculaneum scrolls are scanned, unwrapped, read and edited, and perhaps more of the villa is excavated.
Open in the interactive tree →It needs near-automatic unwrapping, ink detection that works on faint scrolls, scans of every sealed scroll and enough editors. Whether the villa also holds an unexcavated library of Latin works is unknown.
What it brings
- New works of Epicurean and other Greek philosophy
- A fuller picture of one Roman library
- Methods for other sealed or burned manuscripts
