Balloon Flight
The Montgolfier brothers' hot-air balloon carries people into the air over Paris in November 1783.
Open in the interactive tree →Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier flew a paper-and-linen balloon in 1783, and Jacques Charles flew a hydrogen balloon within weeks. Balloons gave the first access to the upper air and carried early weather instruments.
