Von Neumann's 1945 EDVAC report describes a computer that keeps program and data in the same memory; it is the layout of almost every computer.

A machine whose program is data can be reprogrammed without rewiring and can modify its own code. The Manchester 'Baby' ran the first stored program in June 1948.
