Radar

Radio echoes reveal aircraft far beyond sight: Watson-Watt's team shows it in 1935 and Britain's Chain Home network follows.

In February 1935 a bomber was detected by the reflection of a BBC transmitter's radio waves, and a chain of radar stations covered Britain's coast by 1939. Radar also grew independently in Germany, the US and elsewhere, and later became standard in aviation, weather forecasting and cars.
