Space stations

From Salyut 1 (1971) to the ISS (crewed continuously since November 2000), stations taught humans to live and work in orbit for months.

Skylab (1973), Mir (1986-2001) and the International Space Station, built from 1998 by five space agencies, allow long-term research on biology, materials and medicine in weightlessness. The ISS recycles most of its crew water. China's Tiangong has been crewed since 2021.
