Cloning (Dolly the sheep)
A nucleus from an adult cell, placed into an egg, produced a healthy, genetically identical mammal.
Open in the interactive tree →Ian Wilmut, Keith Campbell and colleagues at the Roslin Institute in Scotland used somatic cell nuclear transfer to create Dolly, born on 5 July 1996 and announced in February 1997. It proved that a specialised adult cell can be reset to an embryonic state. That finding led directly to induced stem cells.
