Psychology as a science

Wilhelm Wundt opened the first psychology laboratory and made the mind a subject of experiments.

In 1879 Wundt founded an institute at the University of Leipzig where reaction times and sensations were measured under controlled conditions. Psychology split from philosophy and physiology and trained the first generation of experimental psychologists. Its core idea, studying the mind with measurements, still stands.
