Willis maps the brain
Thomas Willis's Cerebri Anatome (1664) described the brain's blood supply and tied brain parts to functions, founding what became neurology.
Open in the interactive tree →Illustrated by Christopher Wren, it showed the ring of arteries at the base of the brain now called the circle of Willis. Willis also linked brain and nerve disorders such as epilepsy and headache to the nervous system and introduced the word neurology.
