Anatomy and blood circulation

Dissection-based anatomy corrected Galen, and Harvey showed that blood circulates around the body.

Andreas Vesalius published De humani corporis fabrica in 1543, with detailed printed illustrations drawn from human dissections; it overturned many of Galen's claims. William Harvey demonstrated in 1628 that the heart pumps blood in a closed circuit. Medicine became an experimental science of the body, with the printing press spreading the pictures.
