Gunpowder Rockets (Fire Arrows)

Chinese defenders at Kaifeng (1232) use 'arrows of flying fire': the first documented rockets, driven by gunpowder.

Gunpowder rockets spread across Asia and Europe, and William Congreve's iron-cased rockets (1804) made them an artillery weapon. They were the ancestors of the first space rockets.
