Higgs Boson Discovered
On 4 July 2012 ATLAS and CMS at CERN announce the Higgs boson at about 125 GeV, the last missing piece of the Standard Model.
Open in the interactive tree →In 1964 Englert, Brout and Higgs proposed a field that gives elementary particles mass. The LHC, a 27-km ring with 1,232 superconducting dipole magnets, found its particle after decades of searching; Englert and Higgs received the 2013 Nobel Prize. Measurements since then show couplings close to the Standard Model prediction.
