Hebbian learning
Donald Hebb proposed in 1949 that connections strengthen between cells that fire together: the first theory of how learning is wired.
Open in the interactive tree →In The Organization of Behavior (1949) Donald Hebb proposed that when one neuron repeatedly helps to fire another, the connection between them grows stronger. The rule explained learning and memory as changes in synapses and inspired early neural-network models such as Rosenblatt's perceptron. It was confirmed experimentally as long-term potentiation in the 1970s.
